2014
Purpose: Transoral odontoidectomy followed by occipito-cervical fixation is a widely used approach to relieve ventral compressions at the craniovertebral junction (CVJ). Despite the large amount of literature on this approach and its complications, no previous reports of odontoid process and clival regeneration following transoral odontoidectomy are present in the English literature. Methods: We report the case of odontoid process and clival regeneration following transoral odontoidectomy. Results: A 7 year-old boy presented with symptoms of brainstem and upper cervical spinal cord compression due to a complex malformation at the CVJ including a basilar invagination with Chiari malformation…
Cryopreservation of Italian cultivars of hazelnut
2021
The present study was performed to optimise the cryopreservation protocol in Italian cultivars of Corylus avellana L. Lateral buds excised from in vitro grown plantlets of ‘Tonda Gentile Romana’ (TGR) and ‘Montebello’ (MB) were cryopreserved by the encapsulation-dehydration technique. The effect of dehydration of beads with sucrose (0.5, 0.75 or 1 M) for 1 or 3 days, of desiccation with silica gel for 6 or 8 h and of application of two cytokinins (N6-benzyladenine or meta-Topolin) in the regrowth phase was evaluated. The highest regrowth was obtained dehydrating alginate beads with 0.75 M sucrose applied for 1 day and with desiccation for 8 h with silica gel in both cultivars. On the other …

Effects of two essential oil mouthrinses on 4-day supragingival plaque regrowth: A randomized cross-over study
2013
Purpose: To investigate the plaque inhibiting effects of two commercially available mouthrinses containing essential oils (EO). Both products contained the same concentration of EO, but one of them did not contain ethanol. Methods: The study was an observer-masked, randomized, 4 × 4 Latin square cross-over design, balanced for carryover effects, involving 12 participants in a 4-day plaque regrowth model. A 0.12% chlorhexidine (CHX) rinse and a saline solution served as positive and negative controls, respectively. On Day 1, subjects received professional prophylaxis, suspended oral hygiene measures, and commenced rinsing with their allocated rinses. On Day 5, subjects were scored for disclo…

Diversifying crop rotations with temporary grasslands: potentials for weed management and farmland biodiversity
2010
Produzione di semi sintetici di Capparis spinosa (L.). Innovazione e tradizione
2011
The caper bush (Capparis spinosa L.) is a rupiculous species. It is widespread on rocky areas and it grows on different soil associations. Caper can be propagated from fresh seeds, gathered from ripe fruit, or by stem cuttings both methods with unsatisfying results, due to the low germination percentage and to the season-dependent answer of the cutting technique. The aim of the present research has been to evaluate the attitude, for caper in vitro propagules , to be encapsulated. Micro cuttings from in vitro plantlets, were dissected and put on two different Murashige and Skoog liquid media enriched with 4% sodium alginate and 1,4% di CaCl2 separately, for the encapsulation. The synthetic s…
